The Words and Relevance of Dr. Martin Luther King

I’ve included the above video solely for Christopher Hitchens comments in the first five minutes on role models and the idea of vicarious idol worship. I’ll write more on it later, but wanted to include the germ of it here which is encompassed by his comments on Dr. King. They are not derogatory or meant to attack character they are there to remove the dangerous pedestal we make for men and women like Dr. King that lifts them above humanity and its imperfections and places them with feet firmly on the ground and within reach of human hands and hearts. Hopefully allowing for exactly what Mr. Hitchens says – the thought that if they are just like us then “I could make a contribution to humanity too…”
